MASERATI 8CL
1946 \"INDIANAPOLIS 500"
Tipo 8CL built in 1946 for the Milan team
and driven by Villoresi at
Indianapolis in that year. Subsequently by Sommer at Lila, by Villoresi at Barcelona and then Farina
who won the Mar del Plata GP
during the 1948 Temporada in Argentina. Sold in the US
to Fred Agabashian
following the Temporada, she was
driven by him in the 1949 Indianapolis 500. She sat for years in
the Brickyard Museum until it was traded for a car in the UK. It was sent for restoration when
we purchased her and shipped her to the USA in time for the
Maserati
Celebration at Laguna Seca.
MASERATI 5000 GT FRUA 1962 \"AGA KAHN\"
In 1959 Maserati developed a 4.5 litre engine that could produce 400 HP
in their 450S racecar. They
decided to make the first street \"Supercar\" for a few wealthy clients. The results were outstanding and the
5000 GT became the popular choice of
royalty throughout Europe and the Middle East. This chassis was
built on order of the Aga Kahn to be presented to his new daughter-in-law
Rita Hayworth. We made a study of all 38
cars produced and tracked most of them. We bought and sold four in
the early 1990's. This one fetching a world record price of
$953,000.
MASERATI 300S 1956
The 300S had its best year in 1956 and was only a
step away from the World Championship. We found this one vanquishing in a garage
in South America where she saw her glory days in the hands of works
drivers like Musso, Fangio and Stirling Moss who won the
Beunos Aries GP with her. We carried out an
extensive two year restoration and previewed her at the Silverstone Historic Festival
with Moss at the wheel. The spectators rose to a standing ovation
for Stirling who had not driven her since the GP in 1956. He drove back to the
paddock to hand me the keys with a remark that made my efforts
worthwhile. He looked at me and said " she was prepared better than
the factory prepared her at the Busnos Aries GP\"' . She went on to win best of
class at Luis Vitton Concours D' Elegance and was sold at a
great profit shortly after.
